Happiness is a Choice

Hello, my friends in Oneness,

There is no better way for me to start a blog about happiness, than with the above quote. I first heard my guru, Dr. Wayne Dyer utter this, now-infamous quote back in the '70s. It's just another example of why I loved the man and his message, and I still do. He had a knack for breaking down our most important spiritual messages in the simplest ways.

So many people truly believe that there's a specific formula we have to first find, then abide by to find happiness. Trust me, folks, there isn't. Like with anything and everything we could ever want in this journey within the physical realm that we call 'life', nothing is initiated from outside of ourselves. And therein lies one of our biggest troubles that stems from the false belief that we are separated from our source (God).

Our spirit, our essence, our soul, or whatever you'd like to call it, is nothing but happiness. This is what we are. It knows nothing else. It is because of the duality that this life presents us, which is fueled by our ego, we naturally (and unfortunately) look for many of life's answers outside of ourselves.

This is why I preach and share the message of Oneness because at its foundation is the knowing that all of our answers are found by looking within. We can't look for and find happiness, we have to BE HAPPINESS. This is why we say that 'Happiness is a choice'. It is up to me and you to make that decision, and to declare it. Once we do that, our outlook on life changes immediately. We no longer reside in darkness because we've found the light. Now, I'm sure this might sound a little corny to some of you, but think about it from this perspective.

"What is it that makes you unhappy?"

You might have any number of answers to that question from; work, bills, the economy, global warming, politics, assholes, etc. But what I will respond to you with, is that all of these examples reside outside of you. And because of your ego, you believe more in your separation from your source (God), than your inherent connection to that energy. So, you ALLOW yourself to become unhappy. You volunteer yourself, your beautiful light, to become diminished with a level of darkness. Know that any and all examples of unhappiness that you can think of, all reside outside of you! You're CHOOSING to be unhappy! Again, my friends, IT IS A CHOICE!

So, in closing, let me restate yet another quote from my guru Dr. Dyer when he said: "You are doomed to make choices. This is life's greatest paradox". This is one of our greatest blessings, but we don't view it that way. Oneness helps us to understand the truth and beauty behind quotes like this. This is the 'Free Will' part of the story.
